How to Select Multiple Files and Folders Using Check Boxes in Win 7 and Vista

In Windows, you can use CTRL key or SHIFT key to select multiple files. However, you may end up deselecting them all or even sometimes a wrong click may make copies of all the files if you accidentally let go of the button for a second which can be quite annoying.

In Windows 7 and Windows Vista, they have a nice  feature by which you can turn on checkboxes in Windows Explorer, which you can easily select files and folders by checking the box.

You will need to enable this option from the Folder Options settings.

1. Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View

Tick on the check box " Use check boxes to select items"

2. Click 'Apply' > OK

BitLocker – Taking Ownership of TPM Using Command Line – Windows Vista

If you are using Bitlocker, you will need to initialize TPM chip once the right TPM driver is loaded, which it can be done in two different ways, either by using the TPM MMC (simply type tpm.mcs) or configure it from the command line.

We’ll show you how this is done from the command line using the command line utility manage-bde.wsf which is a WMI based script.

1.    From the Vista Start Menu, locate the Command Prompt shortcut. Right-click the icon and select Run as administrator

2.    Enter the following command:

cscript manage-bde.wsf –tpm –takeownership -<password>

where <password>  should be replaced with your own choice of password

Alternative way to type command line for taking TPM Ownership in BitLocker:

cscript manage-bde.wsf –tpm –o –<password>
where <password>  should be replaced with your own choice of password

In the image as an example as shown below, the <password> is Password!2006

Treat this password as your TPM master password.

3.    The TPM chip is now ready for use.

IE8 Opened a Blank Page with Hyperlinks in Office 2007 from CD Optical Drive [Solved]

It is a quite interesting experience which I have encountered on hyperlinks opening a blank page with IE8 from CD optical drive.

And there is a very strange relationship causing conflicts between Windows Vista, IE 8 and Microsoft Office 2007 in CD Optical Drive.

Here the computer details:

OS: Window Vista
Web Browser: Internet Explorer 8 (IE8)
Microsoft Office Suite: Microsoft Office 2007

Problem occurs only using CD optical drive.

A new window opened in Internet Explorer 8 displays a blank white page when clicking on the hyperlinks to a jpg file in Excel 2007 Worksheet from CD optical drive.

If I use Window 7, IE 7 or IE9, there isn't any problem opening the hyperlinks to a jpg file in Excel 2007 Worksheet from CD optical drive.

Fortunately, I have discovered a simple solution by adding a DWORD and Value data in the Windows Registry, the problem is solved.

Solution (for Advanced user):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet

Adding a new DWORD Name value at that Key = ForceShellExecute
and adding a new DATA VALUE = 1

PS: The following condition must be met...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE...\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet must be present for editing.

If HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE...\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\... is not available in the Registry, you can create new registry KEY folder. To learn how to create new registry KEY, refer the related post here:
Creating New Registry KEY for ForceShellExecute

Alternative solutions (for Beginners):

Alternative solution 1:

Copy the CD ROM data to the computer HDD. Run the data from the computer HDD to test.

Alternative solution 2:

Copy the CD ROM data to the external HDD drive. Run the data from the external HDD drive to test.

Alternative solution 3:

Downgrade / Upgrade to IE 7, IE9 or higher. Run the data from CD drive to test.

Registry Editing to Disable Outlook 2007 Addins

You can enable or disable add-ins through the registry if you not able to disable through Outlook Trust Center.

Outlook add-ins are located in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins registry subkey and the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins registry subkey.

The individual available add-ins are listed in the Addins subkeys. Within each Add-ins subkey is a property called LoadBehavior. This property has two possible values: 2 to disable or disconnect the add-in and 3 to enable the add-in.
